Will Buying Discount Health Insurance Risk My Health?
Health Insurance costs are rising, be wary of companies offering discount health insurance. You may not be getting the coverage that you believe you are.
Unfortunately, there are those of us that cannot afford to purchase private health insurance due to the high rates. For those of us that are employed, we may also be facing a crisis. Insurance companies are raising their rates and reducing their coverage limits.
For example: The deductibles on our coverage plans are increasing along with the co-payment amounts. The amount that the insurance coverage will pay for various services is also decreasing. This means that if you’re surgery is going to cost ten thousand dollars, and your insurance company will only pay for five thousand, then you will have to pay whatever your deductible is as well as the remaining five thousand dollars.
Discount health insurance coverage often times only covers the basics. This would include a yearly physical and a minimum of doctors visits in a given period. Hospital coverage on a discount health insurance plan can be dangerous to your health. Having worked in a Hospital for several years and having dealt with discharge planning, I can tell you that you need to make sure you have the best insurance possible to fit your needs. Hospitals will find any reason to move you out if you don’t have the funds to pay for treatment. There are hospitals that will literally turn you down for services if you can’t provide them with the deductible on your insurance plan up front. They usually only do this when they have an insurance company that is known for not paying or for not being prompt with payment. These insurance companies are those you would find on a discount health insurance plan.
Contact your local health department before purchasing a plan that won’t cover you as well as state and local aid.
